NYPL GLBT collections

Posted by kelly barrick on April 8, 2008

A new donor committee has been created, the LGBT@NYPL, to raise funds to catalog, digitize, and endow the GLBT collections. As you probably remember, the incredible collections include the archives of the Gay Men’s Health Crisis, Act Up New York, the People with AIDS coalition, and the personal papers of many GLBT leaders, including Barbara Gittings and Kay Tobin Lahusen. See New York Times article at: http://cityroom.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/04/03/preserving-gay-and-lesbian-history-at-the-library/?hp

Also, a new blog site for NYPL has also been created, which includes links to many of the materials which have already been digitized. That web site is http://lgbt.nypl.org/ If nothing else, be sure to check out the 1962 photo of Barabara Gittings in the shower!
